The main tourist attraction of Croatia has always been its beaches. The whole Adriatic coast and all islands are lined with amazing beautiful beaches , natural harbors,with its countless bays, ports and marinas.
One of numerous beautiful places of Croatia is Dubrovnik.
You’ll find an amazing beach on the Island of Lokrum, which is situated in front of Dubrovnik’s Old city, reachable in 10 minutes by taxi boat from Dubrovnik. The taxi boats run hourly during spring and autumn and twice a hour during summer from the Old city port.
It is a very famous excursion spot and a great place to spend a whole day enjoying the sun and the sea. This small island is a natural resort which is protected by the Croatian Academy of Art and Science.
Beside nice beaches the island has also a Botanic garden with tropical and subtropical plants and a royal fort on the highest peak, built by French army in 1806. You have a magnificient view of Dubrovnik, Cavtat and the island itself from this peak. Walking through nice alleys you can reach the old beautiful Benedictine monastery preserved and partly restored into the Maximilian of Habsburg palace in the 19th century. Now it serves as a restaurant and café bar where you can take a break.
The island has also a small lake ending in the open sea. It is called “Mrtvo more” what means “Dead Sea” and it is very suitable for children and non swimmers to bathe in it.
